Adulthood (16 years and Up)
Adult orthodontics has increased in popularity due to treatment becoming more comfortable and braces becoming less noticeable.
Options for adults include clear braces, lingual braces (braces on the inside) and aligners like Invisalign.
Is there an age limit for orthodontics? As long as the gums and the bone around the teeth are healthy, there is no age limit for braces or Invisalign. We have treated patients in their sixties!
Another suprise that many adults find is that limited orthodontic treatment (which may involve alignment of the front teeth only) often takes as little as 6 months.
We have semi-private areas for adult orthodontic treatment so they are not seated next to children. Also, many adults take morning appointments so they are not in the office when we are busy with children after school.
Over 25% of patients in our practice are adults. Most have always wanted to have straight teeth but never had the opportunity to have braces when they were younger. There are also many parents and children getting their braces or Invisalign treatment done together! The parents often feel that they are in the office anyway with their child, and might as well take advantage of the opportunity to get their own braces done too. In a unique opportunity, Dr. Ghosh treated a child, her mother as well as her grandmother! When they were all finished with treatment, we had three generations of great smiles!
Flexible spending and HSA accounts: Many adult patients in our practice have also taken advantage of these accounts either at year-end or in planning for the next year, while using pre-tax dollars for their braces.
