Is Invisalign Treatment Right for Me?

Learn more about the Invisalign process and what makes someone a good candidate.

Wondering if you are a good candidate for Invisalign treatment? Here at Creekview and McKinney Orthodontics in McKinney and Allen, TX, our dentists, Dr. Jay Ghosh and Dr. Trent Lofgren, have helped everyone from children and teens to older adults get beautifully straight smiles. Could you be next?

If you are an adult, chances are good that you’re interested in getting Invisalign because it offers a nearly invisible way to fix misaligned teeth. So, are you a good candidate for this clear orthodontic system? Here are some things to consider:

What dental problems do you wish to fix?

Invisalign technology has come a long way since it was first developed in the late 90s. Before, it was a great option for adults who were dealing with minor crowding or overlapping teeth; today, Invisalign aligners can handle a wider range of bite problems, crowding, gapped smiles, and even slightly crooked or twisted smiles. While there are still some limitations as to what Invisalign can and can’t treat (e.g. significant bite problems or complex tooth movements), many people dealing with minor to moderate dental problems can get the results they want with the help of this treatment.

How old are you?

While adults well into their 50s and even 60s can still be good candidates for Invisalign, children and young teens aren’t good candidates. This is because children’s teeth are still growing, which means that custom aligners won’t provide the ideal fit to be able to shift teeth around. Older teens and adults are usually ideal candidates for Invisalign.

Will you actually wear your aligners?

This is an important question to ask yourself (and be honest!). One of the major selling points of Invisalign treatment is that aligners are removable, for this allows them to fit into your busy lifestyle without food restrictions or changes to your oral care routine. However, if you think that you won’t actually wear your aligners for 22 hours each day, then you may want to talk with our dentist about other ways to straighten your teeth.
